ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY MATERIALS

Coir is granular particles extracted from the Coconut husk.Coir is composed of organic particles which have a spongy texture and a high water absorption and retention rate. Another important character of this material is that it is chemically neutral and serves as a perfect growth medium because any type of fertilizer can be added depending on the requirements of the crop to be grown.

The coir fibre is relatively water-proof and is one of few natural fibres resistant to damage by salt water. It is an abundant natural resource 100% biodegradable strong durable and provide the most environmentally friendly solutions in erosion control plant growth and soil improvement applications.

CATEGORY

There are two kinds of coconut fibre based of their colors.

White coconut fiber comes from young coconuts while brown coconut fiber comes from more mature specimens. In mature coconuts a layer of lignin has been deposited in the cellulose walls of the fiber causing it to darken in appearance. Once extracted from the coconut the fiber can be spun or matted. It can also be bleached or dyed although some producers prefer to leave the fiber as it is for a more natural look.

ADVANTAGES

* 100% natural and biodegradable -environment friendly

* Moisture absorption: Factor 9 times its dry weight (900%)

* Will last long before decomposing

* Very resistant to UV degradation

* Resists temperature and wind extremes

APPLICATION

Organic and biodegradable coir fibre has been extensively tested as a plant growth medium. Used in greenhouse and bedding plant production on golf courses in landscaping and erosion control.

In horticulture coir is a strongly recommended substitute for sphagnum moss because it is free of bacteria and fungal spores. And produces good results without the environmental damage caused by peat mining. Coir is also useful to deter snails from delicate plantings.

DETAILS:

Brown coir

Brown coir is used in floor mats and doormats.brushes mattresses.floor tiles and sacking. A small amount is also made into twine.pads of curled brown coir fibre are shaped and cut to fill mattresses and for use in erosion control on river banks and hillsides. Rubberised coir is used as upholstery padding for the automobile industry in Europe. The material is also used for insulation and packaging.

White coir

The major use of white coir is in rope manufacture. Mats of woven coir fibre are made from the finer grades of bristle and white fibre using band or mechanical looms.white coir also used to make fishing nets due to its strong resilience to salt water.
