COCONUT SHELL CHARCOAL

Our superior quality coconut shell charcoal granules are used for production of high quality activated carbon.

Coconut Shell Charcoal a byproduct of coconut shell is used broadly as domestic and industrial fuel. It is used for various other heating applications Sulphur free coconut shell charcoal is available in various sizes and powders. Sulphur free coconut shell charcoals are used mainly for carbon pick up in factories and effectively as a raw material for activated carbon.

RAW MATERIAL SOURCE

The raw material is sourced from the innumerable copra manufacturing units in the region that ensure a steady supply of fully matured dry and clean shells. Coconut shell based Activated Carbon with its unique properties is a superior adsorbent making it the carbon of choice for a wide range of liquid and gas/ vapor phase applications.

CARBONISATION OF COCONUT SHELL

1.The coconut shell activated carbon begin with the collection of raw material the coconut shell for the initial processing referred to as carbonization the raw material is carbonized or ignited in oven like condition where oxygen presence is minimal which eliminate non-carbon species and produce a fixed carbon mass and rudimentary pore structure.

2.The quality of the char resulting from the carbonization process of prime importance to the final activated carbon products. Coconut shell that have not been allowed to mature adequately will as a result of thin shell. Produce a very brittle clear which affect process yields and the mechanical strength of the finished products.

3.The carbonized char is then selected for further processing called activation.

4.Initially the char is granulated to a size slightly larger than required finished products. The granulated char is then steam activated and screen to the required mesh size.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COCO CARBON PRODUCTS:

Adsorptive Characteristics

* Surface area (BET N2measurement using nitrogen (N2) of the extent of the pore surface developed within the matrix of the activated carbon. Used as a primary indicator of the activity level based on the principle that the greater the surface area the higher the number of adsorptive sites available.

* Iodine number measurement of the porosity of an activated carbon by adsorption of iodine from solution.

* Carbon tetrachloride activity measurement of the porosity of an activated carbon by the adsorption of saturated carbon tetrachloride vapor

Physical Characteristics

* Hardness an important factor in system design filter life and product handling. There are large differences in the hardness of activated carbons depending on the raw material and activity level

* Bulk Density should be carefully considered when filling fixed volumes as it can have considerable commercial implications. The backwashed and drained density will show a lower value due to the water film between the particles of activated carbon.

* Particle size distribution the finer the particle size of an activated carbon the better the access to the surface area and the faster the rate of adsorption kinetics. In vapor phase systems this needs to be considered against pressure drop which will affect energy cost. Careful consideration of particle size distribution can provide significant operating benefits.

* Low ash content Gives high purity and does not add to contaminant load of adsorbate.
